What We Decided

If you live in the Chicagoland area like we do, then you know all about yesterday's weather. The ominous clouds rolling in, the 70 mile an hour wind gusts, the buckets of rain - which the wind blew sideways. Those little water droplets stung the skin! Well, Frank and I were out in it last night, running around town, getting prepared for the weekend. He usually plays softball on Friday nights, but they were cancelled early enough in the day that we could make other plans. We wrote out our list, and started out on our journey. Swerving to miss a frog hopping across the road had us both laughing in hysterics. We completed our shopping, enjoyed a nice dinner (soaking wet) and retired to the couch early.

When we woke up this morning, the weather was so different. Sunny, humid, warm. All the things we have been hoping for in the last two weeks out of June in Chicago. I went for a sticky and slow run, and Frank opted for a breezier form of exercise today in a long bike ride.
It wasn't until later in the afternoon, that we decided something. Although Quinn's original due date is Monday, we know that he would have been born yesterday during the Chicagocane. That is just how our life seems to work.

This is how it would have went:

(Standing in my kitchen) "FRANK! MY WATER JUST BROKE!"

(Frank enters, bug-eyed) "NOW?" Have you seen it outside? Should I get towels? Nah, screw the towels, you'll just get wet outside anyway!"

(Frank hoists my huge ass into the car, using a special crane) "Are you good? Can you get the seatbelt around your massive body?"

(MaryBeth sneers) "That's hilarious. Do you think you can go faster than....OWWWWW!"

Eventually, we get there. Quinn arrives healthy and safe. And since this is just a story that will never happen, I should also mention that Frank would never say those things to me about my body. But, we decided today that this is how it would've went down. We never do anything quietly, and without a fight!
